Find out which players who made appearances in the 2024 WK League are making moves overseas in 2025

As we approach the new season, some clubs have confirmed their squads for this year’s WK League. While there are many familiar faces and a number of new players joining the league, there are also some notable absences, with some players retiring and others heading for pastures new. Let’s take a look at the 2024 WK League alumnae heading overseas this year – perhaps you’ll be seeing them in a league near you.

Changnyeong WFC

Song Ji-yoon → Australia
After five years at Changnyeong, Song Ji-yoon and her agency announced in January via social media that she is heading to Australia with the aim of playing in the A-League Women. As yet, she has not been linked to a specific club.

Uchida Misuzu → Sfida Setagaya (Japan)
Striker Uchida thanked her teammates and fans for their support during her one season at Changnyeong on social media in December. She has since returned to her native Japan and joined Nadeshiko League side Sfida Setagaya.

Gyeongju KHNP

Yeo Minji → Canada (unconfirmed)
Gyeongju’s 2024 captain and national team legend Yeo Minji is said to be seeking opportunities in Canada, although this is yet to be confirmed by any authoritative source.

Hwacheon KSPO

Shin Nayeong → Lexington SC (USA) (Summer 2024)
In case you missed this news, Shin was a mid-season departure, leaving Hwacheon in July 2024 to join USL Super League side Lexington SC on a “”multi-year deal”.

Lee Jungeun Renofa Yamaguchi FC (Japan)
Japanese fourth-tier team Renofa Yamaguchi confirmed in December that they have signed former Sangmu, Suwon and (most recently) Hwacheon midfielder and Korea international Lee Jungeun.

Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels

Kim Hye-ri → Wuhan Jiangda (China)
After eleven years and ten league titles at Incheon, 34-year-old national team captain Kim is heading to Chinese Women’s Super League team Wuhan Jiangda for a change of pace.

Yoko Tanaka → Renofa Yamaguchi FC (Japan)
Having spent most of her senior career overseas including three years with the Red Angels, Tanaka has returned to her hometown of Yamaguchi and become the first woman to sign a professional contract with Renofa Yamaguchi FC.

Hong Hye-ji → AFC Toronto (Canada)
AFC Toronto, of Canada’s Northern Super League, announced via a press release in January that they had signed Korea international defender Hong.

Choo Hyo-joo → Ottawa Rapid (Canada)
Choo leaves Incheon after only a single season, triggering the overseas release clause in her two-year contract to join Ottawa Rapid, also in the Northern Super League. The move was announced via a 13th February press release.

Lee Min-a → Ottawa Rapid (Canada)
Ten days later, another press release confirmed that Choo would be joined in Ottawa by her former Incheon and South Korea teammate Lee Min-a.

Son Hwa-yeon → AIK Fotboll (Sweden) (Summer 2024)
Another summer 2024 move, in case you missed it. Striker Son, with 56 caps and 12 goals for her country, made the move from Incheon to Sweden in July 2024.

Sejong Sportstoto

Kim Soyi → Subiaco AFC (Australia)
On 8th February, Kim Soyi and her agency announced via social media that she had joined Perth-based NPLW side Subiaco AFC.

Suwon FC Women

Ryu Soo-jung → Nankatsu SC Wings (Japan)
Nankatsu SC Wings confirmed their acquisition of midfielder Ryu in January. She joins the side after two years at Suwon FC.
