Suwon FC announced via official social media channels last week that they have parted ways with American striker Meghan Root. 25-year-old Root joined the club ahead of the 2025 season following a stint at Ho Chi Minh City WFC. She made two league starts for Suwon, including in their first match of the year, and a further two appearances as a substitute, but subsequently has not been included in a matchday squad since round five.
Neither Suwon FC nor Root has given a reason for the abrupt farewell. Some fans suggested that Root may have been released by Suwon FC for not meeting expectations. The defending champions are currently struggling in seventh place, having managed only two wins in eleven games. Others wondered if Root’s recent absence from Suwon’s lineup could be due to an injury sustained in training, and this may be the reason for the sudden announcement. With no official explanation as to why, any such theories are pure speculation.
Whatever the reason for her departure from Suwon FC and the WK League, we hope Meghan has had the chance to enjoy life in Korea over the last few months, and wish her all the best in her future endeavours, footballing and otherwise.
