The news may have been dominated by the national team’s success in the EAFF E-1 Football Championship but there’s plenty more going on in the world of Korean women’s football…
Victory at EAFF E-1 Championship
South Korea’s national team lifted the EAFF trophy for the first time in 20 years in front of home fans last week. After a goalless draw between Japan and China kept hope alive for the hosts, Korea sealed the deal with a 2-0 over Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) on the final day of the tournament.
Following the win, KWFF chairmain Yang Myungseok posted a statement via KWFF social media channels congratulating the team and promising to improve the conditions for women’s football in Korea to grow and thrive. It’s encouraging to see the success of the national team linked to the development of the league — hopefully this tournament win can act as a catalyst for the development of the WK League and other domestic competitions.

Korea win Lion City Cup U16 tournament
Korea’s youth players also had tournament success, claiming the title at Singapore’s Lion City Cup after a dominant campaign. After beating Singapore 9-0 and Cambodia 12-0, the girls conceded a goal early on in their final match against Hong Kong. They quickly rallied and scored eight goals to win the match and the title. It was the first edition of a girls’ tournament at the Lion City Cup, and Korea coach Kim Eunjung emphasised that her main aim was to give as many players as possible competitive international experience.
Choi Dakyung joins Pogoń Szczecin
Following her departure from WK League side Mungyeong Sangmu, Choi Dakyung has joined Polish side Pogoń Szczecin on a one year contract. The club was previously dissolved but reformed in 2022 through a merger of the existing men’s club with women’s team Olimpia Szczecin. They play in the Ekstraliga, Poland’s first division. Striker Choi joined Mungyeong Sangmu in 2021, and made her international debut earlier this year at the Pink Ladies’ Cup.
An Sebin signs with Sabah FA Women
Former Gyeongju KHNP midfielder An Sebin has joined Malaysia National Women’s League side Sabah FA Women. The team has previously represented Malaysia in the AFC Women’s Champions League, but missed out on the 2025-26 competition after finishing as runners-up in the domestic league in 2024. 24-year-old An joined Gyeongju KHNP from Uiduk University in the 2023 WK League draft and played for the club for two years, leaving after the end of the 2024 season.
New coaches for Korea youth teams
The Korea Football Association has appointed new coaches for its boys’ and girls’ U17 teams, as well as creating new separate U16 coaching positions, creating a new ‘two-track’ development structure. Lee Dayoung will lead the girls U16 squad while Go Hyunbok will take charge of the U17s as they prepare for the U17 Women’s World Cup this October. Meanwhile, 2023 AFC Coach of the Year award winner Park Younjeong will step back from her role with the women’s A team to focus on managing the U20s.
