The WK League is back in action this week, but in the meantime, a quick look at what’s going on elsewhere in Korean women’s football.
Joy for Hwacheon KSPO at National Women’s Football Championship
The National Women’s Football Championship is coming to a close in Changnyeong, with the last two remaining age category finals set to take place later today. Hwacheon KSPO claimed the title in the senior division, after a final that has drawn attention for some questionable refereeing decisions. In the universities’ division, Ulsan College lifted the trophy, while in the U18 category Pohang Electronic Girls’ High and Gwangyang Girls’ High met in a repeat of the Queen’s Cup final. This time Pohang won in extra time to avoid another dramatic penalty shoot out and seal the double. The U15 and U12 finals take place today (12th August), with both matches available to stream on YouTube via iTop21Sports.

Kang Chaerim joins Roses de Montréal
Following her departure from Suwon FC, Kang Chaerim has now officially joined Roses de Montréal. The club is one of six currently participating in the inaugural season of Canada’s first division Northern Super League. Kang is the first Korean player to sign with Montreal, but she will see some familiar faces among her opponents — compatriots Hong Hyeji (AFC Toronto), Choo Hyojoo and Lee Mina (both Ottawa Rapid) have all been playing in the NSL since the start of the season.
Korea’s U20 women qualify for Asian Cup
Korea have secured their spot at next year’s U20 Women’s Asian Cup, finishing top of their group with three wins at the qualifying competition in Laos. After Korea’s 9-0 win over Timor Leste, hosts Laos proved harder to beat, holding Korea to 0-0 until a solitary late goal secured the visitors another win. In the final group match against Bangladesh, the team conceded an early goal but quickly equalised before scoring five in the second half to wrap up the victory 6-1. Under the leadership of Park Yoonjung, the squad will now progress to the U20 Women’s Asian Cup, scheduled to take place in Thailand in April 2026.
Korean U15 team wins Nike Premier Cup
Queens United, an U15 team representing Korea, won the 2025 Nike Premier Cup in Portland, USA. The team, made up of players from a some of Korea’s best girls’ football academies, faced Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the final of the competition. The match ended 0-0 but Queens United won on penalties. Koreans Jo An and Lee Seungah were awarded the competition’s Golden Boot and Golden Glove awards respectively.
Venue change for Gyeongju vs. Incheon league fixture
The upcoming WK League Round 13 match between Gyeongju KHNP and Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels, originally set to take place at Gyeongju Football Park, has been moved to Yangsan Sports Complex due to a youth football tournament happening in Gyeongju this week. The Round 13 matchup was postponed from earlier in the season due to Incheon’s involvement in the AFC Women’s Champions League. It is unclear why the clash was not discovered until mere days before the match, and disappointing that a professional women’s team is forced to forfeit their home stadium for a youth tournament. It appears that all football facilities in Gyeongju are in use for the tournament, and Yangsan, over 60 kilometres to the south, was the closest suitable venue available for the WK League fixture.
