Jang Chang leaves Incheon Hyundai to join Galatasaray

Jang started out at Seoul before moving to Incheon, and now heads to Turkey for the next chapter in her footballing career

Turkish club Galatasaray yesterday announced that they have signed Jang Chang from Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels. The diminutive 29-year-old midfielder joins the club ahead of the 2025-26 Turkish Women’s Football Super League season, which begins this weekend.

Jang had already made a splash playing for South Korea’s national team when she was selected as the number one pick in the 2019 WK League draft, signing her first club contract with Seoul City. After three years in the capital, Jang moved to Incheon, where she won two league titles with the Red Angels. She was named as club captain for the 2025 season, but now passes the armband on to begin her first overseas contract.

In a post shared on Instagram, Jang wrote: “Having started at Hyundai Steel as the youngest player and gone on to become the captain, I have been able to develop a lot as a player and a person. I am sincerely grateful to my teammates, club staff, and the fans. Although I have ended up leaving the team to give it a go overseas, I will always be cheering for Incheon Hyundai Steel.”

Galatasaray’s senior women’s team was founded in 2021 and were Super League champions in the 2023-24 season, qualifying for the 2024-25 UEFA Women’s Champions’ League but failing to progress past the group stage. The Istanbul-based side finished in fourth place last season.

Jang’s departure is a blow to Incheon’s bid for glory in this year’s WK League. As captain, Jang has played a crucial role both on and off the pitch for the Red Angels this year, linking up play in midfield with her excellent work rate and footballing intelligence. Incheon have other options, including their 2025 draftees Kim Myungjin and Bae Yebin, both exciting talents but lacking Jang’s experience and leadership. With summer signing Choe Yuri yet to make a big impact for Incheon, the team needs to pick up points in the last few rounds of the season and hope that results elsewhere go in their favour if they are to stay in contention for a playoff spot.
