Kim So-eun joins Western Sydney Wanderers

The forward heads to Australia to pursue a long-held dream after a season with the Red Angels.

For some players, the end of the WK League season might mean time to rest, relax and recover. Not so for Kim So-eun, who was playing for Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels in last Saturday’s playoff against Seoul WFC, but could be playing in Australia’s A-League Women as soon as this Sunday.

Western Sydney Wanderers announced the 27-year-old forward’s imminent arrival today (Wednesday), stating that Kim is due to join the squad on Friday and will be available for selection for the team’s league fixture against Melbourne Victory at the weekend.

‘Sony’ will be the second Korean player to appear in the A-League Women after Jeon Gaeul, who played for Melbourne Victory from 2017-18. Kim, who played for Sejong Sportstoto before joining the Red Angels ahead of the 2025 season, told media that playing in Australia is a “long-held dream” as well as a new challenge.

Kim So-eun is not the only player to leave Incheon Hyundai since the team’s 2025 WK League season came to an end at the weekend. Red Angels Lim Seonjoo, Oh Yeonhee, and Choi Jina have all posted farewell messages to the club on social media this week. Goalkeeper Kim Jungmi became the latest player to announce her departure from Incheon this evening, having been at the club for 21 years.
