Suwon FC announced via social media that they will hold a viewing party for their upcoming AWCL match against 2024-25 WE League champions Tokyo Verdy Beleza. The ‘Castle Viewing Party’ will see up to 60 fans gather in a local sports pub to cheer on their women’s team from afar.
The squad arrived in Myanmar this week, where they will play all three of their group stage matches. They will meet hosts ISPE in their first fixture on Sunday, before facing Naegohyang FC on Wednesday in an historic encounter — it will be the first time teams from North and South Korea have met in a women’s club competition.
The clash with Tokyo Verdy Beleza will be Suwon’s third and final group stage match, and Suwon FC are calling it the ‘AWCL Korea-Japan match’. Of course, the two countries have a long rivalry that extends well beyond football, so there’s a sense that national pride is on the line in this clash, but the narrative only stretches so far in a club competition, especially as Suwon FC have two Japanese players in their own squad. Still, it’s a chance for Suwon to show that teams from the WK League can hold their own against rivals from Japan’s fully professional WE League.
Suwon FC’s watch party will take place next Saturday (15th November) at the Bolt Sports Pub in Suwon’s Jowon-dong. Doors will open at 17:00 ahead of the 17:30 kick-off. A ticket for the event costs ₩25,000, which includes food as well as unlimited soft drinks and draft beer. Sixty tickets are available first come first served, with registration via an online form. Those who wish to attend need to register by 13:00 on Wednesday (12th November).
