South Korea’s senior women’s national team set off from Incheon International Airport this week for a pair of friendlies in Europe. The team will first face Wales in Spain on 28th November (Kickoff at 03:00, 29th November KST) before heading to the Netherlands to take on the Dutch national team on 2nd December (Kickoff at 04:45, 3rd December KST). The matches form part of Korea’s preparations for next year’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup, which will see the team take on Iran, the Philippines and Australia in the group stage.
There were few surprises in Shin Sangwoo’s squad announcement ahead of the upcoming friendlies, with Song Jae-eun the only player receiving a first call-up this time. In the last few days Lee Geummin (Birmingham City) and Jung Minyoung (Seoul City Amazones) have withdrawn from the squad due to injury, with Lee Soobin (Hwacheon KSPO) called up in their place.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s U-19s are also in action during the international window, with two away friendlies against Australia this weekend. Following a training camp in Boryeong this week, the squad is headed for Canberra, where they will play their first match on Friday and their second on Sunday. The youngsters are also looking ahead to 2026, with the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup kicking off in Thailand in April. South Korea has been drawn in Group B along with Jordan, Uzbekistan, and defending champions North Korea.
