Kim Hyeri joins Suwon FC

Former Red Angel Kim returns to the WK League following a spell at Wuhan Jiangda, where she became the first Korean player to win the AWCL.

Following weeks of rumours, Suwon FC finally confirmed the arrival of former national team captain Kim Hyeri today (Friday, 2nd January). The veteran defender has spent the past year at Chinese club Wuhan Jiangda, with whom she won the AFC Women’s Champions League.

Kim began her career at Seoul City before joining Incheon Hyundai in 2014, winning ten WK League side with the Red Angels before heading to China at the start of 2025. Over the course of her career she has won various individual accolades and was nominated for AFC Women’s Player of the Year in 2023. Kim has made over 130 appearances for South Korea at senior level and was the team captain from 2019 to 2024.

Kim’s arrival at Suwon follows that of another national team regular, Choe Yuri, whose signing was made official by the club on New Year’s Day. Also joining the club as they look ahead to the knockout stage of their first outing in the AWCL are Lee Jeongmin and Park Hyunjin. Forward Lee previously played for military team Mungyeong Sangmu before leaving the army last summer. Goalkeeper Park joins Suwon from Seoul City.

There are still gaps to fill in the squad as Suwon FC has confirmed the departures of Cho Sohyun, Choi Somi, Jeon Haneul, Song Jae-eun, Lee Youngseo, Jo Mijin, Hwang Ahyeon and Rena Okutsu. After a poor season in 2025, Suwon FC appear to be building their squad around a core of experienced veterans, with local media reporting the imminent return of Ji Soyun. Korea’s most-capped player and top international goalscorer previously played for Suwon from 2022-2023, having spent most of her career overseas. Suwon FC are yet to confirm the signing.
