Ji Soyun is making a return to the WK League this year, once again joining Suwon FC following the expiration of her contract with Seattle Reign in the NWSL. The confirmation of Ji’s signing comes as Suwon rebuild their squad after a disappointing 2025 season.
South Korea’s all-time most capped international and top goalscorer Ji has spent most of her club career overseas, starting out with INAC Kobe in Japan in 2011 before being recruited by Chelsea. During her eight years in London she sealed her status as a club legend, making over 200 appearances for Chelsea and lifting thirteen trophies with the side.
Ji first played for Suwon FC in 2022, returning to Korea to help boost the profile of the WK League, focus on the national team, and give fans a chance to see her regularly on home soil, despite receiving an offer to extend her contract at Chelsea. While some expected Ji to see out her illustrious career in the domestic league, after eighteen months at Suwon she transferred to Seattle Reign in the NWSL, signing a two year contract.
Having spent the final six months of that contract on loan at Birmingham City in England’s WSL2, Ji is now back in Korea and back in Suwon, bringing a wealth of experience to the side as they prepare for the knockout stage of their first AWCL campaign. She’s not the only veteran joining Suwon’s squad in 2026 — Ji will be playing alongside close friend Kim Hyeri, who is returning to the WK League from a stint in China, as well as former Birmingham City and Incheon Hyundai star Choe Yuri.

Suwon have also added Lee Jeongmin and Park Hyunjin to their roster and announced contract renewals for several core players, after waving goodbye to a sizeable chunk of their 2025 squad at the end of the season. Suwon FC is the only football club in South Korea to field teams in both the men’s and women’s professional leagues. Having lifted the trophy in 2024, the women’s side finished in 7th in the 2025 WK League. Meanwhile, the men’s team was relegated from top division K League 1 to K League 2 after they were defeated by Bucheon FC 1995 in the playoff.
