Kim Seyeon joins Polish side Stomilanki Olysztyn

Former Daeduk University defender Kim is set to make her professional debut in Poland, becoming the second South Korean to play in the country’s top division Ekstraliga

21-year-old Kim Seyeon is set to become the second South Korean to play in Poland’s top division Ekstraliga as she joins Stomilanki Olysztyn from Daeduk University. Choi Dakyung signed with Ekstraliga club Pogoń Szczecin last summer after departing from WK League side Mungyeong Sangmu.

Kim hails from Jecheon, in Chungbuk, and began playing football in elementary school. Having trained at a local football club, she went on to attend Yesung Girls’ Middle School and Yesung Girls’ High School, both renowned for their elite girls’ football academies. Displaying talent from a young age, Kim attended the 2018 KFA Golden Age U-13 talent centre and has represented South Korea at youth level.

She gained attention in 2023 when, still at high school, she received her first senior international call-up, making her full debut for South Korea in the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Olympics. She earned a total of two caps under former manager Colin Bell but is yet to be selected by his replacement Shin Sangwoo. For the past two years, Kim has played for Daeduk University. Daeduk finished as runners-up in the university division at last year’s Queen’s Cup, where Kim received the Best Defender award.

With assistance from her agent, Kim has been considering a potential move overseas since last summer, but she registered for the 2026 WK League new players’ draft, considering it a “once in a lifetime experience”. However, she was not selected at the draft, which saw a record low signing rate amid changes to WK League recruitment rules and the return of several veteran players from overseas.

Stomilanki Olysztyn are currently in 11th place (of 12) in the Ekstraliga, and will face relegation to the 1 Liga if they cannot improve their league position by the end of the season. The club finished in 10th place in the 2024-25 season but has ambitions of climbing up the table and cementing their position in the top division.
