The draw for the quarter finals of the 2025-26 AFC Women’s Champions League took place yesterday in Kuala Lumpur. WK League side Suwon FC will travel to China in March to face Wuhan Jiangda, the defending champions.
Suwon qualified for the AWCL as 2024 WK League champions, but after a disappointing domestic season in 2025, the team scraped through the tournament’s group stage as one of the better-performing third-placed sides. At the knockout stage draw, the three group winners and the highest ranking second-placed team were in Pot 1 and guaranteed a home fixture in the quarter finals.
Of those four teams, two (Tokyo Verdy Beleza and Naegohyang WFC) qualified from the same group as Suwon, meaning they wouldn’t be drawn against each other. Thus, even before the draw took place, the WK League representatives knew they would be facing either Wuhan Jiangda or Melbourne City — the 2024-25 AWCL champions and runners-up, respectively.

Melbourne City was the first team drawn from Pot 1, setting up a match with Uzbekistani side PFC Nasaf and leaving Wuhan Jiangda as the only possible opponent for Suwon FC. It will be a challenging fixture for Suwon — the club’s squad has undergone a significant overhaul in the winter transfer window. There is still plenty of time, but several of the club’s key players, including superstar Ji Soyun, will likely be away on international duty in the run-up to this important match, with the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup also taking place in March. That said, Suwon may have some insider insight into their opponents thanks to Kim Hyeri, who has joined the club this season after spending a year at Wuhan Jiangda. Kim could become the first player in the history of the AWCL to lift the trophy twice, if Suwon go all the way in the competition.
Suwon will play Wuhan on 29th March at 20:00 (Korean time). The match will be broadcast live via The AFC Hub on YouTube.
Elsewhere in the quarter finals, Japan’s Tokyo Verdy Beleza will host Stallion Laguna FC of the Philippines, while Vietnamese side Ho Chi Minh City WFC was drawn against Naegohyang WFC of North Korea. All four matches will be played on 28-29 March, with the semi-finals and final due to take place at a centralised venue in late May.
