Jung Minyoung is making her first foray overseas, leaving Seoul City Amazones and the WK League behind for Ottawa Rapid, in Canada’s Northern Super League. She is the third Korean player to sign with the club after Lee Mina and Choo Hyojoo, who both joined the Rapid last year.
25-year-old central midfielder Jung joined Seoul City ahead of the 2023 WK League season as the club’s first round draft pick. She was a key player in Seoul’s hugely successful 2025 league campaign, catching the attention of national team manager Shin Sangwoo.
Having received her first senior call-up in 2024, Jung made her full international debut last June at Yongin Mir Stadium in a friendly against Colombia. Originally left out of the squad, she was called up after Jeon Eunha pulled out due to injury. Nevertheless, Jung made her presence felt, scoring her debut international goal within two minutes of kick-off in Yongin. She went on to play in all three of Korea’s matches on their way to victory at the East Asian Cup in July.
Jung’s contract with the Amazones expired at the end of 2024 and the club confirmed her departure on 1st January. Domestic news outlets have reported that Jung received offers from several overseas clubs, but felt that Ottawa would be the best place for her to continue developing as a player.
