Former South Korea national team captain Cho Sohyun was named as part of a three-strong leadership team at her new club Halifax Tides ahead of their season opener against Ottawa Rapid on Saturday.
Cho started her career at Suwon FMC, the forerunner to the current Suwon FC Women, then transferred to Incheon Hyundai for a few seasons (and a few WK League titles). She then spent time on loan at INAC Kobe Leonessa before heading to Europe. Having played for a handful of clubs in Norway and England, Cho, who has 156 senior international caps, returned to South Korea and Suwon last year.
Having spent half a season with Suwon FC as they began their first AWCL campaign, Cho signed a deal with Halifax Tides in Canada’s Northern Super League in February. The club began the 2026 season with a 3-1 win against Ottawa Rapid on Saturday afternoon. There were some familiar faces among the opposition’s starting line-up too, as Lee Mina, Jung Minyoung, and Choo Hyojoo all started for Ottawa. All three have previously played in the WK League, and represented South Korea at senior level.
Elsewhere in the Northern Super League, former Suwon FC strikerKang Chaerim came on as a second-half substitute in Montreal Roses’ 2-0 away win over Calgary Wild. Kang joined the club last summer and has since been joined by young Korean talent Choi Hanbin.
