Last month, the 34th Queen’s Cup saw youth teams from across South Korea gather in Hapcheon, Gyeongnam, to compete for silverware in the country’s longest-running women’s football championship.
The tournament was established in 1993 and also featured senior teams until the establishment of the WK League in 2009. The university category was absent for the first time this year due to the launch of the WU League and the W Korea Cup.
44 teams comprising 1,500 youth footballers took part in this year’s tournament, held in Hapcheon County from 15th-26th June. The U-12, U-15, and U-18 divisions all began with a group stage before progressing to a knockout competition.
Gyeongnam Namgang Elementary School won the U-12 division after beating Buhan Saha WFC in the final. Namgang were also champions at May’s National Youth Sports Festival, making the Queen’s Cup their second title of the year, and taking them a step closer to a grand slam of major tournament wins — a feat the team achieved in 2025.
In the U-15 division, Ulsan Hyundai Chungeun Middle School won their third consecutive Queen’s Cup title, with Gyeonggi Yangpyeong G-Sports Club Danwol W finishing as runners-up. Ulsan Hyundai High School won their first Queen’s Cup in eight years after defeating Gwangyang Girls’ High School 1-0 in the final, sweet revenge after Gwangyang beat Ulsan on penalties to lift the trophy at the KWFF Spring Championship earlier this year.
