The 2026 WK League playoff and championship finals have been rescheduled due to playoff contenders Hwacheon KSPO’s upcoming AWCL group stage matches.
The playoff was originally set to take place next week, but with KSPO’s squad in India for their first foray into continental competition, the match has been moved to Thursday 12th November, with a new kickoff time of 19:00.
Hwacheon’s playoff opponents are yet to be determined. The race for third place is down to two contenders: Gyeongju KHNP are currently occupying the coveted spot, and a win tomorrow in Round 28 will see them progress to the playoff regardless of other results. If KHNP slip up against Suwon FC, they could miss out, but only if Mungyeong Sangmu win their home match against Incheon Hyundai.
Seoul City’s loss away at Gyeongju on Wednesday put an end to their playoff hopes, the Amazones having already played their Round 28 match. The team is currently in fourth, but could drop to fifth depending on results tomorrow. In an indication of just how tight the mid-table competition has been this year, Mungyeong Sangmu could still drop as low as sixth place if they lose and Sejong Sportstoto win tomorrow.
With the playoff pushed back, both legs of the championship final have also been rescheduled. The first leg, to be hosted by the playoff winner, will now take place on Sunday 15th November, when the second leg was originally scheduled to happen. The second leg has been moved to a 19:00 kickoff on Wednesday 18th November.
This will mean a busy week for Suwon FC as they attempt to bag a domestic treble — after playing both legs of the WK League championship final just three days apart, the squad will only have two days to recover before the inaugural W Korea Cup final on Saturday 21st November.
