2025 WK League champions Hwacheon KSPO are at the top of the table for the first time in 2026 after hitting form that has seen them take all the points from their last four matches. Their latest win, away against Gangjin Swans, saw the northern side leap from fourth place to first in a table that couldn’t be any tighter — at least, not in the top half.

Hwacheon, Incheon, and Mungyeong have 16 points apiece after eight rounds, with the rankings currently determined by goal difference (the three teams on 6, 5, and 4, respectively). The 2026 season began with Incheon and Mungyeong battling for the top spot as the 2025 champions had a slightly shaky start, but KSPO’s consistency in recent weeks has now seen them rise to the top for the first time this year, as they aim to win their second WK League title.

If all the teams at the top can keep their momentum up, we could be in for a thrilling title race. 2024 champions Suwon FC are also very much in the mix, just one point behind the leaders, and with a crucial game in hand after some WK League fixtures were rescheduled due to Suwon’s involvement in the AWCL this week.

Sejong Sportstoto, currently in fifth, are by no means out of the conversation around playoff places, especially at this early point in the season — under different circumstances, the three points between them and Suwon FC in fourth would not be considered a significant gap, but Sportstoto will need to cause a few more upsets in the weeks to come to keep up with the very tight leading pack.

Upsets are certainly possible in this small, often unpredictable league. It’s a league where anyone can beat anyone on their day — except for Gyeongju KHNP, it seems. Under new manager Park Namyeol, the southern side is yet to win this season, with only three goals scored (all by Hyun Seulgi) despite an experienced squad of proven talents.
